General Performance:
To test every-day performance, we tested the FX-57 in several CPU-intensive situations that you might encounter at home: video and MP3 encoding, and file compression. In all three cases, lower is better.
Summary:
We find it interesting that DVD Shrink is faster on an Athlon 64 X2 4800+, which would suggest that the application is multi-threaded. Having said that, the FX-57 is still a sterling performer in this application, delivering some very solid numbers that will please the multimedia enthusiasts out there.
In contrast, RazorLAME, WinRAR and SuperPI are clearly not multi-threaded, and the Athlon 64 FX-57 is the faster performer in those applications. Finally, the FX-57 shows a greater incremental performance increase over FX-55 than the latter does over a 4000+. This goes to show that there have been some minor tweaks made to the memory controller, allowing it to deliver more performance than has been seen previously. This benchmark is also slightly CPU dependent, which is why you see an incremental performance increase as CPU speed increases.
